n Charles Thomas, who is developing a fine fruit farm on the west shore of Grand Traverse Bay has favored the Western Michigan Development bureau with apples of his own growing. The seeds from which the trees grew were taken from a Duchess apple seven years ago. Two trees bearing quite a different apple are the result of the planting.
n A series of four entertainments, given under the auspices of the Walter Best Woman's club, closed Saturday and the series was a great success in every way. Many outsiders attended the programs, all nearby towns being represented. About $350 was taken in at the door and the number of season tickets sold were above expectations.
n A pleasant surprise was given to Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Midgley when a large company of friends entered their home on South Cedar Street. A program of songs and recitations was given followed by servings of ice cream and cakes. Mr. Midgley was presented with a pair of slippers and Mrs. Midgley with a salad dish. The couple will be moving to Kalamazoo next month.
n The Hannah baseball team played the fast Baxter team Sunday and won. It was a see-saw game from start until the last man was out. The game was won on a three-base drive in the eighth inning.
n Old Mission resort was never more attractive than this season. All the cottages have been filled to overflowing and the Rushmore House attracted a large number this season, all being well entertained. The Porter House has had a good business and everything points to one of the best seasons in its history. The trip around the point from Traverse City by boat is a great attraction.
n A grange was organized at Central Lake Thursday evening by Deputy Master Fred Warner. The organization of this grange had been desired by Eastport Grange to the north for some time as it will be a great boost in that part of Antrim County.
n The postal saving department at the local post office will open August 25 and the government has designated Francis S. Sullivan to take charge of the department. Any who desire information in regard to making deposits or anything else can receive the same by calling on him at the office.
n Dr. and E. B. Minor and family returned yesterday from a five hundred mile trip in their auto through southern Michigan, visiting at Mt. Pleasant, Ionia, Alma, Belding and other points. Otis Minor, wife and two children and Mrs. Strass and Miss Cora Minor of Lake Odessa, returned with them for a visit.
n Mrs. Margaret Moblo arrived last night from Cedar Springs, Ontario to visit her nephew, E. N. Moblo for a few days. Mr. Moblo has not seen his aunt for 22 years. She will also visit Charlevoix and East Jordan before returning home.
n B. Johnson of South Manitou Island will leave that place on Saturday, going to Muskegon for a visit. Later, he will start a trip to visit his old house in Norway.
n Louis P. Haight and family of Muskegon passed through the city Friday on a tour through northern Michigan in their automobile. Mr. Haight owns a section of land east of Muskegon upon which he is conducting a series of experiments under the direction of the U.S. government. The object is to discover what crops are best adapted for growing at a profit on the light lands of that area.

n Medical advice of a century ago. The diet should be normal and not stimulating for a patient with asthma.

The Oak Park Mothers' club held an interesting meeting Tuesday afternoon in the school at which there was a large number of members and friends present.
