• There was a large attendance at the annual election of the Traverse City Lodge No. 323, B. P. O. Elks Thursday night. Exalted Ruler George G. Covell was appointed as a delegate to represent the lodge at the public meeting to be held on March 21st, to discuss the matter of a public hospital. Following the business session, a fine beef steak supper was served in the club rooms.
• Rev. H. W. Laye arrived Saturday from Johnstown, Pa., to accept the call as pastor of the Church of Christ in this city. His first sermon was delivered at the morning service Sunday. Rev. Laye comes to the local church with the highest recommendations from Moxham where he held the pastorate of the Second Christian church.
• Alex Champagne, 1129 East Eighth Street, was struck by a board as it flew from the edger while at work at Beitner's mill Thursday afternoon. His head was so badly bruised that recovery at the present time looks doubtful. Medical attendance was given immediately, the physicians ordering the injured man to the hospital at once.
• W. E. Hunter, architect of Detroit, was in the city Friday in consultation with the building committee of the Central Methodist Episcopal church. This promises to be not only the largest church north of Grand Rapids but the most beautiful. Mr. Hunter is not only a specialist in church architecture but an artist in his line.
• One of the large plate glass windows in the store of E. Wilhelm was broken Friday when a team belonging to Levi Lindley of Bingham ran away and the rear end of a load of lumber was driven through the window. The team was hitched at Caldwell & Loudon's when an engine came along and frightened them.
• Mrs. Carrie Bowes, aged 45 years, wife of Patrick H. Bowes, 630 South Union Street, died at her home Wednesday night after a lingering illness with cancer. Mrs. Bowes was well and favorably known among a large circle of friends whom she has met since coming to this city.
• Two new Buick automobiles were received over the P. J. railroad Thursday are now at the William R. Goode auto garage. One of the cars is a roadster for Dr. L. Swanton and the other, a five passenger touring car, for Henry Lardie of Old Mission. Both machines are furnished with all the latest improvements and will be two of the finest cars in this vicinity for the coming season.
• Advice on deportment. Ladies should dress in modesty, in good taste and in very feminine colors with beads, laces and ribbons.
• Medical advice of a century ago. The aged should not endeavor to perform the feats of agility, strength, endurance and of digestion, especially during heat of summer.

The Oak Park Mothers' club held an interesting meeting Tuesday afternoon in the school at which there was a large number of members and friends present. The subject of the afternoon was in charge of Mrs. William McCool and the topic was "Woman Suffrage". Rev. C. H. Irving was the first speaker. Mrs. E. A. Evans then gave a history of the woman suffrage movement in the United States, showing that it had been in practice since 1869.
