• An extensive probe into the sinking of the Titanic has begun in New York. The first witness, Bruce Ismay, was sworn in and questioned at length. As near as he could tell, most of the passengers were asleep when the bottom of the liner's bow drove into a large iceberg. Many of the lower pieces of the hull were torn asunder and water immediately rushed in. An alarm was immediately given and the passengers seized whatever personal belongings they could. The probe is expected to last several weeks.
• Charles Smith, the Acme farmer who suddenly disappeared on Wednesday, was found Friday evening at the corner of Cass and Twelfth Streets in a dazed condition. When taken in, he was not able to give an account of his wanderings and made strenuous resistance, striking the officer when approached. He gave no reason for leaving home and did not know why he did so.
• Harry Williams, an offender from Walton, appeared before Judge Walker of the juvenile court Friday on a charge of taking goods from the G. R. & I. depot at Walton. He admitted the charge and was released as a ward of the court upon suspended sentence.
• Lila Cunningham and Howard Cleland, residents of Hodge, were married by the Baptist pastor in this city last Saturday at the home of W. J. Cleland. The young couple have a host of friends who extend congratulations to them.
• Will Griffith caught a fish in Long Lake Saturday weighing 15 pounds. It was 3 feet 3½ inches long and 17 inches around. Will has a smile on as this is the largest one caught this season.
• Mrs. J. D. Munson and Mrs. W. E. Williams entertained a very large company at the home of the latter, Wadsworth and Sixth Streets, Thursday. The ballroom on the third floor was converted into a bower of flowers and the guests enjoyed the afternoon playing six-handed euchre. The winners of the prizes were Mrs. K. E. Horst, Mrs. Frank O. Nicholson and Mrs. B. J. Morgan.
• About 8 o'clock yesterday, the fire department was called to the Masonic block to put out a fire in the basement which had started from the cable of the West Union Telegraph Company which had been crossed by live wires. It made a lively fire for a short time which was put out by means of the chemicals carried on the hose wagon.
• H. Joint and William Abbott of this city, were in Northport last week making arrangements for the construction of the bridge on Third Street, of which Mr. Joint will have charge.
• Tom Heuss, is moving his family from Maple City to Traverse City but he will still remain at the former place as agent of the F. M. depot. Mrs. Maggie Scofield has purchased the house which Mr. Heuss occupied.
• Henry Kimons of West Almira Corners (came) in the city Tuesday and returned home with a fine horse which Jim White had just purchased.
• The many friends of L. D. Spafford and wife met in the Grange hall at Lake Ann Saturday after the close of the Grange meeting to bid them farewell.
• Advice on deportment. No one should come to breakfast in night clothes.
• Medical advice of a century ago. One of the dietetic treatments for the aged is to diminish the total quantity of food ingested.

The Oak Park Mothers' club held an interesting meeting Tuesday afternoon in the school at which there was a large number of members and friends present. The subject of the afternoon was in charge of Mrs. William McCool and the topic was "Woman Suffrage". Rev. C. H. Irving was the first speaker. Mrs. E. A.
