The Pere Marquette railroad has installed a new system for handling fruit that comes in on the boats this summer that will save a lot of handling and expedite the shipment during the rush season. The railroad has made arrangements to use the dock at the Hannah & Lay Company which has a large apron upon which barrels and crates are placed direct from the boats.

Hon. Edwin S. Pratt died at his home, "Hillcrest", in this city last Monday. Mr. Pratt had been in failing health for two or three years but had been able to continue his office work, in some measure. Mr. Pratt was a brilliant lawyer, public spirited, a useful citizen of Traverse City and a respected pioneer. Death was due to toxemia.

Mrs. William DeWitte met with a most painful accident Sunday afternoon at her home on State Street while engaged in the act of opening a can of fruit. She was using a sharp knife to pry off the cover when the knife slipped, cutting a gash extending from the thumb some distance up the forearm. The only thing that saved the severing of the artery in the wrist was the fact that a blood clot had formed over it.

Oscar Fisher, bartender at the Leelanau Hotel, was stabbed twice last Thursday night by Roy Grubb, a resident of the peninsula, either during or after an altercation over the payment of ten cents which Fisher claimed that Grubb owed for a drink.
