10:10 pm: Packed agenda for final meeting

TRAVERSE CITY -- A busy agenda with a myriad of topics awaits Traverse City commissioners at their last scheduled meeting of the year.

The commission Monday night is slated for a closed session on trial and possible settlement strategy for the city's federal court lawsuit against Charter Communications for re-locating two local public, government and educational channels onto the company's digital tier. Commissioners may take action on the issue following the closed session.

Officials also will consider a request from the Grand Traverse County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority to join it and Grand Traverse County in filing a complaint against potentially liable parties for environmental contamination linked to old gasoline stations at the corner of Front and Division streets.

A proposed public parking deck at the west end of downtown will again be discussed, as commissioners will consider authorizing contracts for preliminary designs and cost estimates and a property appraisal. Those contracts were already approved by the city's Downtown Development Authority.

The DDA board chose Rich & Associates Inc., of Southfield, for a design feasibility study at no more than $9,500, and also selected Traverse City-based Northern Michigan Real Estate Consultants for a $3,465 property appraisal.

Three commissioners also may be named to a new sub-committee to meet and negotiate with county officials to discuss Sheriff's Department road patrols in the city. City officials said their taxpayers pay hundreds of thousands each year in taxes for sheriff's road patrols but don't receive equitable services.

Commissioners will meet at 7 p.m. on the second floor at the Governmental Center, 400 Boardman Ave. in Traverse City.
