Endorsements: Booher, Walker for Senate

In the low-key race for the 35th Senate District, we recommend Republican state Rep. Darwin Booher of Evart. The 68-year-old Booher has served three terms in the House; before that he was a township supervisor for 28 years. Booher is a common-sense, low-key lawmaker worried about results, not politics. He wants the new governor to look closely at every department and the "whole tax structure, period."

Democrat Roger Dunigan has run a good campaign but can't compete with Booher's experience.

In the 37th Senate District, the clear recommendation is republican Howard Walker. The 55-year-old Walker served three terms in the state House, through 2008, then decided to seek the Senate seat of term-llimited Jason Allen. Walker has been a consistent advocate of equitable school funding and said his emphasis in the Senate would be on jobs and the economy.

, specifically on growing energy-related business and value-added agriculture.
