TRAVERSE CITY — An ex-state representative ran a campaign for the 37th state Senate race based on job growth and voters bought in.
Republican Howard Walker beat Democrat Bob Carr Tuesday in a district that includes Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Chippewa, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Mackinac and Preque Isle counties. Walker, who formerly represented Grand Traverse and Kalkaska counties in the state House, credited his message on employment for the win.
"I talked about jobs for the last year and a half, and I think it's still the most important issue," Walker said. He won a four-year term.
