Unions back school board candidates

TRAVERSE CITY — Three Traverse City Area Public Schools employee unions are backing two candidates for school board.

Erik Falconer and Mary Marois, two of six candidates vying Nov. 2 for two open board seats, received endorsements from associations representing teachers, bus drivers and clerical workers.

Members from the three groups — Traverse City Education Association, Traverse City Transportation Association, and Traverse City Clerical, Assistants, Paraprofessionals and Secretaries Association — interviewed each candidate.

"It was a good pool," said Mary McGee-Cullen, TCEA president. "We think it's a great reflection that these people want to be a part of our school system."

Other board candidates include Jennifer Schell Bonifacio, Cynthia Glines, Scott Hardy and Mary Jo McKay.
