Dems file complaint against Benishek

DETROIT — Michigan Democratic Chairman Mark Brewer says his group is filing a complaint against Dan Benishek, saying the Republican congressional candidate used a private plane for campaign purposes.

Brewer says Benishek broke the law and wants the Federal Election Commission to investigate.

State Democrats aren't seeking a specific penalty, but Brewer said Wednesday that voters in northern Michigan's 1st District should consider Benishek's actions during Tuesday's election.

Benishek campaign treasurer Joe Shubat says the campaign may have "inadvertently erred" in taking two flights and "is contacting the FEC to correct any reporting errors."
