Festival founder Michael Moore plans to start a film distribution company.

Moore said during a Wednesday morning panel discussion that he and other State Theatre volunteers are thinking about a company that will focus on documentary and independent films.

"It kills me to bring these great films to Traverse City and know nobody else is going to see them," Moore said. "There are good movies, they just aren't being distributed."

No company name is planned and no timeline is set for the company's launch, but it will be affiliated with the State Theatre. Moore said the State Theatre is recognized beyond Traverse City.
