@Wurrwilf: "To those visiting our fair city for #tcff: LOCK YOUR BIKES And I don't mean those silly cable locks that any 10 yr old can crack."

n

Matthew Fine got a second mortgage on his house to help his brother Jeff make "Cherry." The movie was filmed in Kalamazoo and, when they got the Michigan tax incentive back, Matthew Fine paid off his mortgage. The movie tells the mostly autobiographical story of Jeff Fine's first year at Brown University (John F. Kennedy Jr. was a classmate) and a mother-daughter pair he met. Matthew Fine said the mother and daughter still live together ("There's some dysfunction there.") but have yet to see the film.

@FIRSTmagLISA: "After attending the TriBeCa film festival for years, I'll take the #TCFF any day!"

n

Mark Lewis, director of "Cane Toads: The Conquest" offered cooking tips during a Q&A after the film's 3-D screening. The toads are rampant in his native Australia and the movie depicts several ways Aussies have been (unsuccessfully) trying to stop them. They have to be skinned first, Lewis said, because of toxins in their skin and glands. Then deep fry them and use lots of garlic, he said.

Still want more? The Glen Arbor Art Association is offering a one-week documentary boot camp with Andrea Maio, a filmmaker and teacher at the Interlochen Arts Camp and University of Missouri. The camp is scheduled for Aug. 9-12; www.glenarborart.org, 334-6112.

n

@womenable: "Another am flick today @ #tcff: "Please Give." Guilt-ridden New Yorkers leading lives of quiet desperation. They need an Up North vacation!"

n

A nearly full house at a noon movie at Lars Hockstad Auditorium began clapping when the movie hadn't started after a quarter-hour wait. They had to wait for Michael Moore to show up to introduce the movie.

n

"The Most Dangerous Man in America" filmmaker Rick Goldsmith told the audience there was something they should know that isn't in the movie. "Daniel Ellsberg is from Michigan," he said.

n

The merry bubble pranksters hit the fountain at the Jay Smith Walkway, between Kilwin's and Pangea's, again Friday night. Bicyclists covered in bubbles were seen pedaling down Front St. at 2:15 a.m.

n

@JeffDeutchman (after seeing "Waiting for Superman"): "NY State pays its bad teachers full salary to idly wait for a hearing for an avg of 3 yrs, costing over 100mill per year. Shocking." (Editor's note: Jeff Deutchman is the director of another festival film, "11/4/08.")

n

Filmmaker interviews, panels and more are airing on UpNorth TV, streaming at www.upnorthmedia.org or available to Charter Cable subscribers on Channel 2 and 97.

n

Stars who are in Michigan whom we haven't seen in Traverse City include David Arquette, filming "Scream 4" near Ann Arbor, and Kal Penn, working on the third "Harold and Kumar" movie in Detroit.
