BATA easily wins millage

TRAVERSE CITY — The Bay Area Transportation Authority easily won voter approval for funding that will allow it to continue providing bus service in Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties.

Voters approved a renewal of BATA’s 0.3454 mill property tax through 2017 on a vote of 11,917 to 3,914. The measure would raise about $2.3 million annually to fund operations and would cost the owner of a home with a $75,000 taxable value about $26 a year.

Voters in Leelanau County approved the tax renewal with 74 percent of voters in favor while over 75 percent supported it in Grand Traverse County.
