Overheard from a technician: "No one makes gripping movies about projectionists. They should. We love to talk. We're alone so much of the time that when we do see people, we talk and talk and talk."

n

@kitchkitch: If you don't walk away from the #TCFF inspired, then you're missing the point. It's really more than great movies when all is said and done.

The French film "Queen to Play" has multiple chess scenes, chess instruction, chess footage. So where do the director and lead actress place in the world chess rankings? "Neither of us plays chess in real life," said Caroline Bottaro, director.

n

Ira Deutchman, a Columbia University professor and independent film distributor who has been moderating several Film Festival Q&As this week, after the screening of "Queen to Play": "I never thought chess could be so sexy."

n

"Queen to Play" also stars Kevin Kline, one of the few American actors director Bottaro could find who speaks French. "The phone rang while I was sleeping," she said of their first encounter. "Unknown number. Let's answer. That was my first conversation with Kevin Kline and it probably lasted an hour and a half. He speaks a lot."

n

@jrwpix: Best #TCFF of the day: TCPD officer, in uniform, just totally did the best #heathledger impersonation of the Joker "why-so-serious?" #spooky

n

Another heroic save! The TC police showed up at the State Theatre with a soaking wet purse containing filmmaker credentials. A kayaker had found the purse in the Boardman River and turned it in. Film Festival staff got it back to its proper — and thankful — owner.

The Traverse City Lip Dub has been released to much love. View it at www.record-eagle.com/video.

n

@chinzeDPT: @TCFF blown away by the quality films I have seen at this years #TCFF, 9 movies down and yet to be disappointed #TCMI

n

Film Festival volunteer Bryn Lynch, a teacher at Traverse City Central High School, translated for Cubans one day, then effortlessly switched to French the next day for other visiting filmmakers.

n

@aSirensSailor: Love #TCFF always. The people, the films, the community, the bikes and the joys of being a (transplant) local. #TVC #tcmi

The four high school football players featured in the Dearborn-made documentary "Fordson: Faith, Fasting, Football" attended the State Theatre screening Friday night in their blue and gold uniforms. Director Rashid Ghazi and the Fordson football coach also participated in a question-and-answer session after the film. One player told the crowd that watching the film, about playing during the holy month of Ramadan, gave him "goosebumps." The film showed players fasting from food and water.

An audience member asked if the players suffered any health problems because of the fasting, which continues from dawn to sunset.

"Football is a good thing during fasting. It wastes three hours of your day," laughed one team member.

@sunshinyday: Overheard at COH: 'Really great movie.' 'How many stars did you give it?' '3.' '3?' 'Well, it WAS a documentary.' #tcff
