FROM STAFF REPORTS ---- The Record Eagle Sun Jul 08, 2012, 10:00 AM EDT

Grand Funk Railroad and Pop Evil, are among six acts performing at the National Cherry Festival's Bay Side Music Stage at the Open Space. Gates open nightly at 6 p.m., with music at 8 p.m. A $15 V-Pass is good for all shows, which also are individually priced.

The Bihlman Brothers & Friends play Saturday, July 7.
Pop Evil, Finding Clyde and Wayland perform Sunday, July 8.
Joe Diffie and Jerrod Niemann perform Wednesday, July 11.
Blue Oyster Cult performs Thursday, July 12.
Grand Funk Railroad and Dick Wagner perform Friday, July 13.
Here Come the Mummies perform Saturday, July 14, and includes the festival finale fireworks.

Run for the finish

Betsy Graney made a triumphant return to the Cherry Festival on Saturday, winning the women’s Fifth-Third Golden Mile. Graney was timed in 4 minutes, 42.5 seconds. Notre Dame alum Daniel Clark captured the men’s Golden Mile in 3:58.5.

Ripley edges Kerr in 15K

Zach Ripley and Dan Kerr waged a two-man battle in the Meijer’s Cherry Festival 15K road race Saturday. In the end, Ripley won the sprint to the finish, edging Kerr by less than a second, 48:31.93 to 48:32.35.

Neal, Kovacic win 5K

Kevin Cataldo initiated the challenge. Tommy Neal answered. Neal, a Colorado resident, won the Meijer’s Cherry Festival men’s 5K road race Saturday, finishing in 15:20.26. Cataldo, a former Suttons Bay standout, was second in 15:49.61.
