OMENA — Charles "Dusty" and Jan MacDonald celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Nov. 3, 2012, at a private dinner celebration with their family.
High school sweethearts Charles Dustin "Dusty" MacDonald and Janet Hoffman were married on Nov. 3, 1962, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Flint, and honeymooned in the Upper Peninsula.
In 1969, the couple moved to Traverse City, where Mr. MacDonald was employed as an electrician and eventually became the president of Davis Electric. Mrs. MacDonald, a registered nurse, worked at Munson Medical Center and later as a gerontological nurse for Catholic Family Services. In 1985, the MacDonalds moved to Omena, where they began extensive renovations on their third farm house. The couple recently moved back to Traverse City. Mr. and Mrs. MacDonald are devoted members of Trinity Lutheran Church. They also enjoy camping, sailing and handcrafts of all kinds.
The couple's children are Susan (Scott) Miller of Whitehall, Sharon (Jim) Depper of Traverse City, Amy (Eric) Poindexter of Holland, and Dave (Mary) MacDonald of Maple City. They also have 10 grandchildren.
