Griner 77th

TRAVERSE CITY — Mr. and Mrs. Burton S. Griner, of Traverse City, celebrated their 77th wedding anniversary with a family dinner at the Cedar Rustic Inn.

Burton S. Griner and the former Adeline Cook were married on Jan. 21, 1936, at the First Congregational Church parsonage in Traverse City. The Rev. Dr. Howard Towne officiated at the ceremony.

Mr. Griner graduated from Copemish High School in 1931 and attended Ferris State University. He was a farmer who later worked for both the Michigan and the U.S. Departments of Agriculture. Mrs. Griner graduated from Traverse City Central High School in 1934 and attended Northwestern Michigan College. She was secretary to Preston Tanis, president of Northwestern Michigan College, and then served as assistant to Jack McChrystal, dean of instruction at NMC. She retired in 1975. The Griners are members of The Presbyterian Church of Traverse City and are lifelong Grand Traverse area residents.

The couple's children are Patricia (Tom) Swanson, of Copemish, and B. Jay (Susan) Griner and James (Camille) Griner, all of Traverse City. They have seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
