The book contends that cyberculture is turning young people into know-nothings, and Bauerlein says the absence of technology confuses kids faced with simple mechanical tasks. Center, "The Winter of Our Disconnect" by Susan Maushart. The book documents Mausharts efforts to wean her family from its dependence on technology. Right, "Free-Range Kids" by Lenore Skenazy. Skenazy, whose approach to parenting is decidedly in the anti-helicopter camp, agrees that we are partly to blame for our childrens apparent incompetence, starting when they are infants.
