Dr. Johnson-s Hospital at 444 E. State Street was a private hospital in the 1920s operated by a local doctor. Traverse City-s only public hospital during the Spanish influenza epidemic was a small renovated apartment on the Traverse City State Hospital-s grounds. One lesson of the flu epidemic was that Traverse City needed a bigger and better hospital.
