TRAVERSE CITY — A Fife Lake woman pleaded guilty to animal cruelty in a case involving several malnourished horses discovered on her property.
Danelle Marie Round, 39, pleaded guilty in 86th District Court to one count of abandoning or being cruel to two or three animals, a one-year misdemeanor. Sentencing is scheduled for March 2.
Two malnourished horses had to be euthanized after a Grand Traverse sheriff’s deputy and a veterinarian inspected Round’s property on East M-115 near Fife Lake in January. Five others were taken away to receive care.
Round’s daughter, Nikita Booth, owns the surviving horses and wants three of them returned from the Horse North Rescue group in Kingsley. Grand Traverse Prosecutor Al Schneider filed a civil lawsuit to determine if the horses should be forfeited to the rescue group, and hearing is set for Feb. 22.
