TRAVERSE CITY -- The National Weather Service in Gaylord has now issued a Lake Effect Snow Warning until 11 p.m. tonight.
Locally heavy lake effect snowfall is impacting eastern portions of Grand Traverse County this afternoon, possibly continuing into this evening. Snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches are expected by late this evening to east of M-37, specifically areas around Acme, Williamsburg, and portions of the Boardman River valley, upstream of Brown Bridge dam.
Heavy snowfall will impact travel along portions of M-72 and U.S. 31 east of Traverse City into this evening.
