Panthers claim title, run up streak

Panthers notch third straight 30-win season

LAKE LEELANAU — Frankfort won a regional title and entered rather elite company in the process.

With the pair of victories Saturday, the Panthers became just the third school in state history to record three straight 30-win seasons.

Frankfort (30-8) won the regional crown 5-0 over Glen Lake after a thrilling eight-inning, 5-4 semifinal win over Buckley.

Cameron MacArthur led off the top of the eighth with a solo home run that held up as the difference. Cody Chilcott added a two-run shot in the second frame.

Kyle Zimmerman struck out 13 as he hurled two-hit ball for all eight innings.

Zach Traylor gave up only five hits and struck out five for Buckley.

Glen Lake advanced to the title game with a 12-0 win over Bellaire.

Nick Swartz blasted a three-run homer, Curtis Bunek had three hits and Adam Scarbrough had two hits and three RBIs for the Lakers (21-18). Mike Sawyer picked up the win, striking out six and surrendering only two hits.

Frankfort's Tim Stieve gave up two hits and struck out five in five-plus innings of the title contest. MacArthur came on for the save.

Zimmerman was 2-for-3 with a double and MacArthur also doubled.

The Panthers move on to play Rogers City in Tuesday's quarterfinal at TC West.
