TRAVERSE CITY — Alpena posted a 4-1 win over host Traverse City Central on Saturday to claim the Division 1 district title.
The Trojans (29-8) split with the Wildcats during the regular season.
Central had two hits from Kyle Coggins in the finale while Zac Zoellner took the loss with seven strikeouts in five innings. Coggins also pitched in inning with three strikeouts.
Earlier, the Trojans beat Marquette 15-0. Nick Keller and Brandon Harrison each had three hits while Erik Krueger, Andrew Cater and Travis Myers hit twice. Chris Roop pitched the win with five strikeouts and one hit allowed.
Alpena reached the title game by edging Traverse City West 1-0 in 10 innings. Joey Caraccio was the tough-luck loser for West, allowing four hits in 9.2 innings of work. He walked two in the 10th and that came back to hurt him.
The Titans, who finished 13-14, had 10 hits, including three by Jimmy Rinehart.
DIVISION 3
Kalkaska tops Elk Rapids for district title game
Travis Schuba was a bat boy for Kalkaska the last time the Blazers won at district title.
On Saturday, he pitched the Blazers to a 4-3 win over host Elk Rapids to win the district championship.
Schuba had five strikeouts in the win.
Grayson Myas lifted Kalkaska (28-4) in the title game with a solo home run in the sixth inning that proved to be the difference.
In the first game, the Blazers beat Kingsley 7-1. Zac Bontrager pitched the four-strikeout win while Schuba had three hits and Brandon Washburn had two hits and three RBIs.
Elk Rapids advanced with a 3-2 win over Suttons Bay.
The Norse (21-6-1) took the loss with Jared Orban, who gave up two hits with seven strikeouts. Evan Glowicki, Blake Mikesell and Clay Joupperi each had two hits.
One-run games give Ironmen title
Mancelona won two one-run games to repeat as district baseball champs.
The Ironmen (23-9) beat Harbor Springs 3-2 in eight innings in the semifinal and then got host East Jordan 6-5 in the final.
Mancelona will host regionals next weekend.
In the title game, Taylor Borst pitched the win with nine strikeouts. Dan Johnson had two hits and three RBIs, Borst had two hits and Nick Lockman had a home run in the top of the seventh inning to give the Ironmen a 6-4 win.
In the first game, Lockman hit a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the eighth to score Tyler Hartzell for the win. Lockman also pitched the win with 16 strikeouts, six hits allowed and two earned runs.
DIVISION 4
Glen Lake wins district in extra innings
It took an extra frame, but Glen Lake beat Lake Leelanau St. Mary's 5-3 for the district title at St. Francis.
The Lakers (20-17) got their first title since 2006 when Dale Pleva put down a squeeze bunt in the eighth inning and Adam Scarbrough finished the scoring with a sacrifice fly.
Curtis Bunek had three hits for the Lakers, Jordan Hill had two hits, Nick Swartz picked up the win in relief while Simon Kohler earned the save.
In the semifinal, Glen Lake beat TC Christian 10-0. Hill had three hits, Kohler doubled and tripled, Michael Sawyer and Scarbrough each had two hits and Kohler pitched the win.
St. Mary's advanced with a 7-1 win over St. Francis. The Gladiators had two hits from Ryan McDonnell and Keith Gingras, who pitched the loss with seven strikeouts.
Frankfort takes third straight title
For the third straight year and the fourth time in five years, Frankfort is a baseball district champion.
The Panthers accomplished the feat at home with a 17-0 win over Brethren.
Tim Stieve pitched the win with three hits allowed for the Panthers (28-8), who move on to play Buckley next Saturday at the Lake Leelanau St. Mary's regional.
Cody Chilcott had a triple and a home run in the fourth inning for four RBIs while Cam MacArthur finished the game with two hits.
In the first game, Frankfort scored with its first hitter and held on for a 1-0 win over Manistee Catholic. Kyle Zimmerman singled to open the game, stole second, took third on a wild pitch and came home on a MacArthur sac fly to second base.
Zimmerman pitched the win with 15 strikeouts and three hits allowed. Nick Doyle took the loss for the Sabers with three strikeouts and four hits allowed.
