Roundup: Luxford sets state record

FRANKFORT -- Wade Luxford set a state record Wednesday in Frankfort's 6-1 and 10-0 sweep over Brethren in a non-conference baseball doubleheader.

Luxford swiped six bases in the twinbill, raising his career total to 184, a new state mark. The previous record was set by Whitehall's Nate McLouth, now with the Pittsburgh Pirates, who stole 180 bases from 1997-2000.

Frankfort won the opener behind Chris Tondu's three-hitter. Devin Gokey tossed a two-hitter in the nightcap. He also went 3-for-3 at the plate with a home run. Tyler Stratton and Tondu added two hits for the 21-0-1 Panthers, who are at Traverse City Central on Friday.

Elk Rapids JV 5 2

St. Francis' JV rolled to a 15-5, 15-2 Lake Michigan Conference sweep of Elk Rapids.

Ryan McDonell was 3-for-5 with three runs for the Gladiators (9-4-1) in the opener while Sean Sheldon pitched the win.

McDonell was the winner in the nightcap, Seth Kellicutt was 4-for-4 with four runs. Brad Rivett had two RBIs in both games.

Charlevoix 2
Suttons Bay 0

Charlevoix scored twice in the second half for a 2-0 non-conference win at Suttons Bay.

The Rayders (8-2-1) had goals from Olivia Catt and Taylor Smith while Hallie Bills and Madison added the assists.

Tammy Potter earned the shutout in net for Charlevoix with 12 saves.

Charlevoix, which also had 12 shots on goal, hosts Grayling today.

Benzie Central 4
Manistee 2

Benzie Central scored a 4-2 non-conference win over Manistee.

The Huskies (6-5) had two goals from Jennifer Harig. Erin Thompson had a goal and two assists while Taylor Nugent added a goal and Becca Heigas had an assist.

Katie Bramble scored both goals for Manistee.

Maria Blazejewski was in net for Benzie while Ashley Oakley stood out for the Huskies on defense.

Benzie hosts Reed City on Friday.
