TRAVERSE CITY -- Traverse City West and Kalkaska split a non-conference softball doubleheader after the Titans came back with an 11-4 nightcap win.

Kalkaska (18-6) won the opener 7-3 behind Jen Spann's three-hitter. Abby Merrill had four hits and Kristi Peters two in the Blazers win. Jamie Myas drove in two.

In the opener, the Titans (18-9) had two hits and two runs from Jen Hill. Laura Cizek doubled and scored twice while Katie Kirkey had two runs. Kate Colmus pitched the win. Spann and Myas led Kalkaska with three hits. Merrill collected two hits.

West hosts a tournament Saturday. Kalkaska entertains Kalamazoo Christian today.

LLSM 10 9
Suttons Bay 4 4

Lake Leelanau St. Mary's moved to .500 on the season with a 10-4, 9-4 non-conference sweep at Suttons Bay.

Claire Garthe pitched both wins for the Eagles (9-9). Mary Lingaur went 4-for-4 in the opener with a homer while Emily Schaub and Garthe each had three hits.

In the nightcap, Lingaur, Rachel Thon and Samantha Herman each had two hits.

Frankfort 12 12
Manistee CC 1 2

Frankfort rolled to a pair of non-conference wins over Manistee Catholic.

Laney Eubank pitched the 12-1 opener for the Panthers (19-9-2) with seven strikeouts and three hits allowed. Kayla Nye won the 12-2 nightcap with four strikeouts.

Mindy Smith went 3-for-3 in the second game while Paige Banktson had two hits. Eight players hit in the opener for Frankfort, including a triple for Eubank and a double for Smith.

Benzie Central 0 0

Julie Makasym pitched Manistee to a 3-0, 2-0 sweep of Benzie Central.

The Huskies (9-13) had a hit in both games from Jackie Fredrick while Adriane Kline suffered the losses.

Gaylord St. Mary 16 8
Central Lake 0 3

Gaylord St. Mary earned a 16-0, 8-3 Ski Valley Conference sweep of Central Lake.

The Trojans had a double from Elsie Russell in the opener and Tasha Crouse also had a hit. Heidi Hicks had three hits in the nightcap while Shelia and Tasha Crouse each had two.

Elk Rapids 6 6
Mancelona 5 2

Elk Rapids scored twice in the ninth inning for a 6-5 non-conference win over Mancelona.

The Elks (15-11) then took the nightcap 6-2.

Kacey Anderson had a two-run homer for Elk Rapids in the first game while Sarah Otte and Shelby Tulk each had two hits. Jessi Spoor pitched the win in relief.

Spoor was the winning pitcher in the nightcap, Stephanie Niepoth had three hits, Madi Gosselin and Kaylee Martinek each had two hits while Anderson had a two-run triple late to pad the lead.

Kingsley 11 9
McBain 5 5

Amy Wiggins slapped three singles to lead Kingsley's hitting attack in an 11-5 win over McBain in the first of two non-conference games.

Hillary Hoeflin, Alexi Benton and Sadie Lorano added two hits. Kerrie Kelly earned the win.

Kingsley won the nightcap 9-5. Kelly picked up the win. Kayla Lehn had a single and triple for Kingsley.

Kalkaska JV 0 5

Jennifer Kennedy pitched the Traverse City West JV to a 5-0 win over Kalkaska in the opener of a doubleheader.

Katie Kaminski scored two runs for the Titans (19-2). Danica Makowski had two hits.

West won the nightcap 18-5 as Katie Doornbos pounded out five hits, including a home run. Jennifer Campbell and Paige Malocha added three hits to back the pitching of Shelby Newhouse.

TC West JV Gold 10 7
Glen Lake JV 6 15

Mallory Kaysserian and Sydney Denoyer each had three hits as Traverse City West's JV Gold won the twinbill nightcap 15-7 to split.

Myranda Adamick struck out six and gave up only three hits for the Titans (6-7). She added two hits of her own.

Monica Iadeluca had two hits in the 10-6 opening-game loss.

BASEBALL

TC West 10 10
Kalkaska 4 5

Brett Kenny belted a three-run homer and Kevin Kreta added a solo shot as Traverse City West beat Kalkaska 10-4 in the opener of a non-conference doubleheader.

Tim Drake allowed seven hits, striking out three, in earning the win. Kenny, Kreta, Matt Beem and Grant Durga all had two hits for the Titans (15-9).

West won the nightcap 10-5. Joe Kniss surrendered eight hits in gaining the win. Kreta, Scott Witkop and Luke Hessler led the attack with two hits.

West competes in the Grand Haven Invitational on Saturday.

Frankfort 10 15
Manistee CC 6 2

Frankfort scored six runs with two outs in the top of the sixth to beat Manistee Catholic 10-6 in the first of two games.

Devin Gokey picked up the win. Chris Tondu led the Panthers (26-1-3) with two hits, including a triple.

Frankfort won the second game 15-2 behind the pitching of Tim Stieve, who allowed six hits. Wade Luxford went 4-for-4 with a double. Kyle Zimmerman and Cam MacArthur chipped in two hits.

Central Lake 4 5
Gaylord SM 2 2

Wilson Nemec held Gaylord St. Mary in check -- surrendering just two unearned runs -- as Central Lake posted a 4-2 Ski Valley Conference win.

Brian Cannon paced the Trojans (16-9) with two hits and three RBIs.

Central Lake won the nightcap 5-2. Dylan Cary earned the win. Ryan Crawley drew three walks and scored three times. Tyler Strange contributed two hits and three RBIs.

Central Lake plays Bellaire today.

Inland Lakes 12 12
Forest Area 3 4

Inland Lakes swept Forest Area, 12-3 and 12-4 in Ski Valley Conference action.

The Warriors (5-12) had a hit and three stolen bases from Victor Woodhouse in the opener.

Forest Area will play at Pellston on Monday.

Kingsley 10 12
McBain 0 2

Billy Wismer homered as Kingsley picked up a 10-0, 12-2 non-conference sweep of McBain.

Wismer homered in the opener for the Stags (10-15-1) while Parker Fitzsimons and Cody Tarey each had two hits. Jeff Conrad pitched the one-hitter with eight strikeouts.

In the nightcap, Bob Taylor and Wismer each had three hits while Zac Baughn pitched the win in relief.

Benzie Central 10 8
Manistee 9 7

Benzie Central won both ends of a doubleheader with Manistee in the final at-bat, winning 10-9 and 8-7.

Jeremy Stapleton drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth in the opener and pitcher Dan Nickerson plated the winner to give himself the win in the nightcap.

Jacob Moilanen paced the Huskies in the opener with a 6-for-6 game, including two doubles. Stapleton was 4-for-6 with five RBIs and Shane Roelofs had a double amid his 3-for-3 game.

Taylor Johnson went the distance for the win.

Nickerson picked up the nightcap win in relief. Johnson was 3-for-3 in the game, and Nickerson and Mark Michalak were each 2-for-3.

Benzie (14-10, 7-5) hosts the Benzie Invitational on Saturday, starting at 10 a.m.

Leland 18 10
TC Christian 3 8

Leland swept a non-conference doubleheader from Traverse City Christian 18-3 and 10-8.

Sam Fagerstrom had an RBI double in the opener for the Sabres. Jason Send pounded out three hits and scored three runs in the nightcap. Jon Rudolph added two hits and two RBIs.

Christian hosts a tournament Saturday.

TC Central JV 6 1

Traverse City West's JV won a 6-1 nightcap to split to split with TC Central.

The Titans (8-11) had two hits and three RBIs from Jared Hubbard in the second game while Frank Gilbert pitched the win.

Matt Shaw pitched the 6-4 win for Central in the opener. Joe Caraccio took the loss for West with no earned runs.

St. Francis JV 1 6
Kalkaska JV 6 5

The Traverse City St. Francis JV came back in the nightcap with a 6-5 win for a split with Kalkaska.

The Gladiators (10-5-1) had three hits in the win from Dylan Seybert while Tyler Hansen also had an RBI double. Seth Calcutt and Sean Sheldon each had a hit for St. Francis in the opener.

TC Central frosh 4 15
Suttons Bay JV 2 1

Brad Keller had four extra-base hits -- including a pair of home runs -- as Traverse City Central's freshmen topped the Suttons Bay JVs 4-2 and 15-1.

Keller belted a pair of homers in the opener, driving in three runs. Tyler Fortin also had two hits.

Mike Druskovich picked up the win, and Nick Keller went the final two innings for the save.

Fortin added three hits in the nightcap and also threw a complete game for the win. Joe Prokes and Gabe Couturier had two hits each for the Trojans (16-7).
