FLORENCE, Ky. — So far, so good.
The Traverse City Beach Bums moved to 2-0 on the season Friday with a 6-4 win over the Florence Freedom.
Traverse City opened the game with Brian Heere walking and Kyle Colligan hitting a two-run home run in the team's first two at-bats.
Florence came back in the bottom of the first inning to tie the game at 2-2 when Chris Curley hit a home run.
But Traverse City would get hot again in the third inning.
Kyle Eveland led off with a single for the Beach Bums, Heere had a hit and Colligan drew a walk to load the bases for third baseman Jose Vargas. He made the most of it by hitting a grand slam home run over the wall in left field for a 6-2.
The Freedom had a solo homer from Junior Arrojo in the third and added a run in the sixth, but it was as close as they would come.
David Deminsky got the win, going 5.1 innings with four earned runs on five hits and two strikeouts. He also fanned five batters.
Matt Miller and Sam Brown worked the late innings with just two hits allowed before turning the game over to closer Scott Mueller in the ninth. He gave up a hit and a walk, but had a strikeout to earn the save.
Traverse City only had five hits on the night, but drew seven walks. Colligan and Scott Gusrang each walked twice.
The teams will conclude their three-game series today in Florence.
