Bryan Banes became just the sixth Frontier League pitcher this season to reach double digits in wins, throwing seven innings of five-hit ball Thursday in a 5-1 victory over Rockford.
Banes upped his record to 10-3 and lowered his earned-run average to 2.59. He gave up one run and four walks, striking out four.
Only Joliet's Jake Renshaw and Windy City's Dustin Williams have more wins. They each have 11.
Banes is also fourth in the league in ERA.
Jose Vargas staked the Beach Bums to an early lead with an RBI double that scored Chase Burch in the first inning.
The RiverHawks plated their only run of the game in the fourth inning to briefly knot it up, but Traverse City responded by scoring four in the bottom of the same frame.
J.T. Hall singled in John Parham and Greg Burns. Matt Brown walked and both Hall and Brown stole bases before coming in on Tom Zebroski's single.
Lake Erie beat Joliet 7-2, keeping the Beach Bums a half game behind the Crushers, but pulling them within six games of the division lead with nine games remaining.
Hall had three hits and Jeff Flagg doubled for Traverse City, and Scott Reid came on from two scoreless innings.
Matt Gibbs took the loss for the RiverHawks, giving up eight hits and five runs in six innings.
Traverse City starts a three-game home series with Windy City today. The ThunderBolts are seven games behind Joliet and 1.5 back of Lake Erie for the East Division's second playoff spot.
