TRAVERSE CITY — Brian Heere was the hero on Tuesday.
The Beach Bums outfielder hit a solo home run with one out in the bottom of the 11th inning for a 5-4 win over Windy City at Wuerfel Park.
Traverse City was held to just five hits on the night. Heere accounted for two of them.
Windy City trailed 4-1 going to the ninth inning, but got to Beach Bums closer Scott Mueller for three runs to tie the game.
Traverse City took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Jeff Flagg had a two-run double to score Jose Vargas and Ryan Still. Chase Burch later scored on a wild pitch.
In the second inning, Kyle Eveland scored for a 4-0 lead off a Still sacrifice.
Nick Capito pitched 2.1 innings of relief with a hit allowed and a strikeout for the win. Starter Jacob Clem went eight innings with three hits allowed, a run, a walk and two strikeouts.
The teams play the second of the three-game set today at Wuerfel Park.
