TRAVERSE CITY — Jeff Flagg belted a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning Wednesday to give the Traverse City Beach Bums an 8-6 Frontier League win over the Rockford RiverHawks.
It was the third home run in the game for the Beach Bums (44-42), who trail second-place Lake Erie by a half-game in the East.
Rockford plated three runs in the top of the sixth to rally for a 6-5 lead. But Traverse City quickly responded. With two outs in the bottom half of the inning, Tom Zebroski doubled in Jose Vargas to tie the game and then Flagg went deep for his 12th homer of the season.
Matt Miller, the second of four pitchers, picked up the win. Jeff Cinadr and Scott Mueller tossed three innings of hitless relief to close it out.
After Rockford struck for two runs in the top of the first, the Beach Bums used the long ball to tie it. Greg Burns hit a solo shot in the bottom of the first, then Stephen Shults hit his second homer in as many nights in the second to make it 2-2.
Traverse City then put three runs on the board in the fourth, two coming on bases-loaded walks.
