TRAVERSE CITY — Sean Gusrang hit his third homer of the young season, a three-run blast in the third, as the Traverse City Beach Bums opened a homestand with a 6-4 Frontier League win over Rockford on Tuesday.
Gusrang finished with four RBIs on the night.
Brooks Belter pitched 5 1/3 innings to earn the win as Traverse City improved to 10-6. Scott Mueller hurled a perfect ninth for the save.
The Beach Bums had just four hits, but took advantage of 14 walks, two hit batters and a balk. A bases-loaded balk accounted for Traverse City's first run in the second inning that tied the game.
After Gusrang's homer, Jeff Flagg singled in a run in the fourth to make it 5-1.
Rockford scored twice in the sixth to cut the gap to two, but Gusrang's sacrifice fly scored Flagg in the seventh to push the count to 6-3. Flagg had doubled earlier in the frame.
Devin Shepherd, Evan Button and Matt Greener had two hits apiece for the RiverHawks.
The win kept the Beach Bums a game behind Southern Illinois in the East Division.
The series continues tonight with Bennett Whitmore getting the call for the Beach Bums and Ziggie Vanderwall for Rockford.
