The Traverse City Beach Bums leap-frogged Lake Erie into second place in the East Division with an 11-9 victory over Rockford on Thursday.
Lake Erie, meanwhile, was blanked 1-0 by Washington’s Chris Smith, who combined with two relievers on a one-hitter.
The Beach Bums and Crusher start a three-game series tonight that will determine who earns the division’s second playoff spot.
Scott Dunn improved to 9-3 with five innings of work, allowing one run and striking out five.
Chase Burch, J.T. Hall — who was just named to the Frontier League’s postseason All-Star team — and Jose Vargas hit home runs for Traverse City.
Burch drove in five runs and Vargas three.
Seven of Rockford’s runs came off relievers Rick Raraigh and Bryce Morrow. Matt Miller earned the save with 2.1 innings, giving up one run.
