AVON, Ohio — The road trip ended with a 4-3 loss to Lake Erie in 12 innings on Sunday.
But it was a successful trip for the Traverse City Beach Bums, nonetheless.
The Beach Bums come home for the final two series of the regular season after clinching a playoff berth, the East Division title and homefield advantage throughout the playoffs, all over the course of the last few days.
Sunday's loss ended a seven-game winning streak for the Beach Bums, which tied a franchise record.
Lake Erie got the win in the 12th inning with the bases loaded and one out. Adrian Ortiz hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Jason Taylor for the 4-3 victory.
Traverse City opened the game with a 1-0 lead thanks to a Ryan Still home run.
The Crushers came back for a 2-1 advantage in the bottom of the first and made it 3-1 in the third when Daniel Bowman scored from third with the bases loaded.
In the fourth inning, the Beach Bums crept closer when Marcus Nidiffer homered to left field. Then in the fifth inning, Jose Vargas went deep to tie the game at 3-3.
Vargas finished with two hits.
TC starter Jacob Clem went 6.2 innings in getting the no-decision with three runs on seven hits with three walks. Nick Capito and Scott Mueller didn't allow a run in their work in relief and both had two strikeouts. Matt Miller took the loss.
Traverse City begins a three-game stand with Gateway at Wuerfel Park on Thursday. The Road Warriors will be in Traverse City next weekend.
Playoff tickets go on sale today at 10 a.m. The Beach Bums will host games on Sept. 5-6 and Sept. 10 if necessary.
