Washington tops Bums in 10

FROM STAFF REPORTS

TRAVERSE CITY -- Alan Robbins was a thorn in Traverse City's side all day.

And he ended up poking and prodding his Washington team to a 4-3 extra-innings victory over the Beach Bums.

Robbins was 2-for-4 with four RBIs, accounting for all of Washington's scoring as the Wild Things took the opener of a three-game series at Wuerfel Park.

Traverse City scored all of its runs in the eighth inning to knot it up at 3-3 after starter Zach Groh hadn't given up a run through seven frames.

Brad Miller led off by getting hit by a pitch and eventually came around to score on a wild pitch before Mike Victor cracked a two-run single to score John Alonso and James Guerrero.

Jacob Dempsey walked to lead off the 10th inning, was sacrificed over to second and came in on an Alan Robbins sacrifice fly for the winning run.

Scott Billak managed a pinch-hit single in the Bums' half of the 10th, but that was it.

Brett Bostelman started and gave up six hits and two earned runs in six innings, striking out five.

TC's Chris Kupillas threw a scoreless seventh inning in his professional debut. Jared Locke surrendered a run in the eighth and David Hurst (2-1) allowed only one hit in two innings, but took the loss.
