WASHINGTON, Pa. —
It will be a quick turnaround for the Traverse City Beach Bums.
The Beach Bums needed 11 innings Sunday night to dispose of Washington 3-2 in a Frontier League game that ended just after 10 o'clock.
The team then had to bus back from Pennsylvania as the Bums start a home series with Florence tonight at Wuerfel Park.
Chase Burch led off the 11th with a home run to give Traverse City the win. It was his seventh of the season.
The Beach Bums trailed 2-0 until the sixth when Brian Heere walked, Ryan Still doubled to drive in Heere and then Jose Vargas singled in Still to tie it.
Nick Capito earned the win, pitching one-hit ball in four and two-thirds innings. He struck out five. Jacob Clem tossed the first six innings, giving up two runs on five hits. Closer Scott Mueller came in for the final out.
Traverse City, which leads the East Division with a 34-17 record, finished with seven hits, two by Vargas.
The Beach Bums posted a 7-3 win on Saturday night. Traverse City started quickly in that game as Vargas belted a two-run homer in the first inning. It was his league-leading 19th homer of the season.
The lead increased to 3-0 in the third when Burch singled in Heere, who singled and moved to second on a wild pitch.
After Washington cut the gap to 3-2, Traverse City responded with three runs in the sixth. Kyle Colligan's double brought in Jeff Flagg, who had singled. Sean Gusrang singled in Colligan and then, after a walk to Marcus Nidiffer, Kyle Eveland singled in Gusrang.
Matt Miller (3-2) earned the win with three strong innings of relief. Scott Dunn made his first start of the season, pitching four innings. He allowed one run on two hits.
Vargas and Eveland had two hits apiece for Traverse City.
