TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City hit three home runs out of Wuerfel Park on Sunday.
And it wasn't enough.
Florence scored four runs in the second inning and never looked back in an 8-3 win over the Beach Bums.
J.T. Hall, Jose Vargas and Jeff Flagg accounted for the three Traverse City home runs. All three were solo shots.
Florence built its lead in the second inning of a two-run shot from Juan Valdes, as well as RBI singles from Jonathan Cisneros and Junior Arrojo.
Matthew Smith took the loss for TC in his Beach Bums debut. He gave up six hits and five earned runs in three innings of work.
The Beach Bums will look to bounce back today at 7:05 p.m. with 5-0 starter Bryan Banes. Florence will throw Chris Ingoglia (4-2).
Traverse City added two new players over the weekend in pitchers Bryce Morrow and Matt Miller.
Morrow joined the team when reliever D.J. Johnson had his contract purchased by the Arizona Diamondbacks.
For Miller, he was signed on Sunday after third baseman Jimmy Baker retired.
Baker was acquired from Florence on June 28 and given a contract extension the next day. In his four games with TC, Baker went 2-13 with a homer, four walks and five strikeouts.
