'Bath Massacre' details school attack
ANN ARBOR -- A new book published by the University of Michigan Press attempts to make sense of the nation's first and worst school mass murder, the 1927 bombing of Bath Consolidated School.
Author Arnie Bernstein details the May 18 event, when Andrew Kehoe set off a cache of explosives, killing 38 children and six adults. Bernstein interviewed survivors and the families of those killed during his year of research.
"Bath Massacre" is available in bookstores and at www.press.umich.edu and costs $18.95.
Updated hiking book has new trails
CHELSEA -- The new edition of "Hiking MIchigan," by Roger Storm and Susan Wedzel cover 146 day hikes and includes 20 new park, 50 new trails and hikes on nine islands.
The book is divided into three sections -- Upper Peninsula, northern Lower Peninsula and southern Lower Peninsula. Trails are listed east to west. The book is designed to appeal to a variety of hikers.
