Prep Roundup: Titan bowlers tie for lead

West, Central atop league race

TRAVERSE CITY -- Traverse City West's 27-3 win over rival Traverse City Central on Saturday evened the girls' standings in the Great Northwest High School Bowling Conference.

The Titans (2-1, 5-1) swept the Bakers and took a 10-0 lead by shooting 366. The Titans rolled four 200 games and were led by Corrie McIntosh's 437 series. Central's Samantha Mosley had a 226 in the loss.

It sets up a showdown for first place between the Trojans (1-1, 5-1) and the Titans in Division I-II in two weeks .

Bellaire (3-0, 5-1) beat Glen Lake (0-3, 0-6) 18-12 in Division III-IV. The Lakers' Danielle Leach led both teams with a 311. Benzie Central (3-0, 4-2) beat St. Francis (2-2, 2-4) 23-7, Benzie's Ashley Stain rolled a 295 series in the win.

In the boys' conference, Glen Lake's (3-1, 4-1) loss to Bellaire (2-2, 2-3) in a sudden death Baker game roll-off sets up a Sivision III-IV showdown as Glen Lake will take on St. Francis next Saturday. The Lakers' Wyatt Smith led both teams with a 427 series.

The Gladiators (4-0, 5-0) beat TC West Gold (0-2, 1-5) 18-12. The Gladiators' Michael Bork's 413 led both teams. TC West Green (1-0, 6-0) beat TC Christian (3-2, 3-3) 24-6. The Titans' Zak Edwardson's 429 led both teams. Christian's Jon Tuck rolled a 398 in the loss. TC Central (2-1, 5-1) beat Benzie (1-3, 1-5) 24-6. Central's Christian Vreeland had a 440 in the win while Benzie's Cody Bowers had a 207 game in the loss.

Elk Rapids (2-2, 2-4) beat TC Prep (0-5, 0-6) 29-1. In the Junior Varsity division, Elk Rapids beat Bellaire 29-1 and TC West beat St. Francis 20-10.

For the girls, TC West Gold beat its B team 29-1 and TC Central B beat the Vacant 24-6.

WRESTLING

Roberge finishes second at 160

Traverse City Central's Zack Roberge went 3-1 to finish second at 160 pounds Saturday in the Portage Central Invitational.

The Trojans finished sixth as a team. Hartland won the tournament.

Placing third for the Trojans: Julian Diaz (3-2) at 125 and Scott Rademaker (3-2) at 215. Cody Vickers was fourth (2-2) at 285.

Schaub wins weight class at Gaylord

St. Francis sophomore Isiah Schaub won the 119-pound division in the Northern Michigan Championships at Gaylord.

Schaub, who also won his division last year, won all four of his matches by pin. He is now 40-1 on the season.

Paul Britten finished second at 189. He was 3-1.

Also placing for the Gladiators: Jack Jamison, fifth at 130; and Seth Kalicuit and Alex Picardat, sixth at 135 and 145, respectively.

Two Traverse City West wrestlers placed third.

Mike Ostrom at 103 and Brandon Dalzell at 215 went 3-1 on the day. Caleb Horn was fourth at 160 with a 3-2 mark.

Winning two matches for the Titans: Zack Braggon at 125, Rob Innis at 130 and Zack Skeels at 189.

BASKETBALL

LL St. Mary's 45
Creative Tech 40

Bradford Schaub scored 13 points and Christian Krombeen 11 as Lake Leelanau St. Mary's defeated Creative Technologies Academy 45-40.

Cole Chilcote netted 11 for Creative Technologies.

LL St, Mary's JV 31

Micaiah Faust scored 11 points as the Traverse City Bulldogs JV downed Lake Leelanau St. Mary's 40-31.

Nick Shaffran had 12 for St. Mary's.
