TRAVERSE CITY -- Traverse City West's boys and TC Central's girls teams -- both of whom repeated as conference champions during the regular season -- held their ground Saturday during the Great Northwest Conference's team tournament held at Timber Lanes.
All league teams were eligible to compete in the event -- which had 15 boys teams and 9 girls teams -- all bowling six baker games across 12 lanes for a qualifying block.
After qualifying, the top seeds were both TC West Green teams, with Central second.
In the boys division, West Green beat the West B (321-289), then West Gold (397-383) to meet the Trojans in the finals. The Trojans beat their own B team (368-269) and Traverse City St. Francis (403-347) as they moved into the finals.
TC West held a 10-pin lead after the first game, 198-188.
The Titans continued the strong scoring by finishing with a 189 game as the Trojans faded just enough down the stretch for the Titans to claim the championship.
On the girls side, the Titans followed their boys counterparts by beating their own B team (262-191), but this time the Titan Gold team upended the Green (290-275) to meet Central in the title match.
The Trojans moved past St. Francis (325-267) and Division 3-4 Conference champs Bellaire (288-270) to move into the Finals.
TC Central gained the lead after the first game by 26 (149-123). With the match in doubt, the Trojans finished strong shooting a 152 game to West's 147 to win the tournament.
The Benzie Baker Tourney is Wednesday at Wilderness Crossings, with regionals on Friday.
