West only unbeaten boys bowling team

The Traverse City West Titans boys A team is now the only unbeaten in the Great Northwest Bowling Conference.

The Titans beat Traverse City Christian 18-12 and the West AA team 28-2 to improve to 5-- 0. Christian was one of three boys teams to enter the day unbeaten.

West took a 10-0 lead over the Sabres -- rolling Baker games of 173 and 211 -- and never looked back. Bryce Blick led the Titans with a 361 series (169, 192). Brian Benson paced the Sabres with a 380 series (156, 224). In the match with the AA team, Blick again led the way with a 451 set. Aaron Johnson rolled a 223 in the win.

Christian (3-2) also dropped an afternoon match to Traverse City Central (4-1) 26-4. Steve Tate shot 458 (266, 179) for the Trojans.

Tate also starred in a morning win for the Trojans, rolling a 470 series (278, 192).

West, meanwhile, got some help as Elk Rapids beat the league's other unbeaten team, Glen Lake 18-12. Charging out to a 10-0 lead after the Baker Games, the Elk locked up their win by getting six more points in the first regular game. Jacob Way led the Elks with a 328. Jake Johnston paced the Lakers with a 197 game.

The Lakers won their afternoon match to move to 4-1 while the Elks (2-3) dropped a 25-5 decision to St. Francis. The Gladiators' Spencer Schmerheim rolled a 201 in the win. The Gladiators also blanked Benzie Central 30-0. Jordan Blodgett rolled a 355 series for the Gladiators (3-2).

In the morning match, Benzie (0-5) fell to Bellaire 25.5-4.5. Bellaire's Jeff Odom led both teams with a 172 game. The Titans AA (2-3) team beat Bellaire (3-2) in the morning match 23-7. Zak Edwardson (403) and Jacob Cook (374) led the Titans AA team.

In the girls division, Central moved to 5-0 by beating the Titans AA team 29-1 and Glen Lake 28-2. Katie Vreeland's 255 and Nicole Lally's 392 series led the Trojans. The TC West girls A team kept pace at 5-0 by beating the TC West B 25-5 and Benzie Central 24-6. Ashley Parent's 376 series led the Titans in the morning and her 369 led the afternoon win. Alana Holdbrook shot a 167 in the loss for the Huskies (1-4).

St. Francis lost to Glen Lake 21-9. Chloe Gribbin led the Lakers with a 300 series. Emily Arends had a 160 game in the loss. The West AA team beat the Gladiators in the afternoon 19-11. The Titans Breanna Bitely led both teams with a 265 series.
