Prep Roundup: Norsemen upend Benzie

BENZONIA -- Dwuan Anderson scored 18 points and Ben Walters 17 as Suttons Bay improved to 4-1 in the Northwest Conference boys basketball race with a 69-61 win over Benzie Central on Saturday night.

The two combined for 18 of Suttons Bay's (7-2) 19 fourth quarter points. Blake Ibbotson added nine points and 11 rebounds and Charlie Olson 14 rebounds and four steals. Suttons Bay plays Leland on Tuesday.

Jeremy Hoxie's 22 points paced Benzie Central.

Galen Whittaker had 23 points and 12 rebounds and Eric Larsen 20 points and 10 rebounds as Leland defeated Mesick 64-52 in Northwest Conference play.

Nate Sneed chipped in 11 points for the Comets (6-3, 3-2).

Mark Fortelka tossed in 18 points and Curtis Brown 12 for Mesick.

Kingsley 46

Matt O'Brien scored 26 points as Glen Lake rallied to beat Kingsley 49-46 in the Northwest Conference.

Andrew White added 14 points for the Lakers, who trailed 37-34 after three quarters.

Jordon VanHorn netted 12 points and Tommy Sedlacek 11 for Kingsley (5-5).

Bay Reps 2

Rockford jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead en route to a 7-2 win over the Bay Reps.

Luke McDiarmid and Craig Miller tallied for the Reps (6-8). Jake Peacock and Miller assisted on the McDiarmid goal while Peacock and Adrian Ringlever assisted on the Miller tally.

The Reps host Midland Dow on Friday at Centre ICE.

DeWitt-St. Johns blanked the Northwest Warriors 7-0 in a game Saturday night.

Trojans hand Titans first league loss

The Traverse City Central boys extracted a little revenge Saturday as they avenged their only loss of the season and tied Traverse City West atop the standings of the Great Northwest High School Bowling Conference in the process.

West held an early 6-4 lead after the Baker games, but the Trojans (8-1) erupted for a conference season-high game of 1012 to break the match open. Steve Tate (236), Christian Vreeland (214) and Austin Kalbfleisch (195) led the charge. Tate ended the day with a series of 449 to lead both teams Vreeland added a 423. Bryce Blick led the Titans (8-1) with a 399 series.

In the morning match, the Titans beat St. Francis 22-8. West's James Fuqua's 477 (265, 212) led both teams.

Traverse City Christian ended the day at 7-2 by beating Glen Lake in the morning 25-5. The Sabres John Leach led both teams with a 195. Christian then beat Bellaire in the afternoon 17-13 as Jeremy Radtke rolled a 216.

After its loss to West, St. Francis (6-3) beat Glen Lake (4-5) 27-3. Jordan Blodgett's 402 series (189,213) led the way. The Lakers Simon Kohler rolled a 210.

West's AA beat (5-4) Elk Rapids 26-4 behind Eric Johnson's 202. In the morning meet, the AA team beat Benzie 25-5.

Elk Rapids moved to 3-6 with a morning win over Bellaire (4-5) 21-9. Stephen Pina's 412 led both teams.

In the girls division, West (9-0) beat the Central B team (3-3) 30-0 and beat its own AA team 29-1. Ashley Parent had a 371 series led the Titans in the morning while Taylor Pahl rolled a 319 series in the afternoon.

Central (8-1) beat the Titan B (2-4) team 28-2 in the morning and St. Francis 28-2 in the afternoon . Ashley Bearinger's 383 series (201,182) led the morning win while Nicole Lally's 377 (192,185) topped the afternoon session.

Glen Lake moved to 5-4 by beating the Titan AA team (3-6) 18-12, but then lost to Benzie Central 26-4. The Lakers Heather Leach had a 154 game against the Titans. Alana Holdbrook's 353 series (164,189) led the Huskies in their win over the Lakers. Benzie (3-6) dealt St. Francis (0-9) a loss in the morning match 18-12. Holdbrook again led the way with a 320 series.

Teams head into their last double meet of the season this weekend with the key matchup in the morning between West and Central in the girls division.
