TRAVERSE CITY — Grand Traverse County commissioners will immediately begin the process of hiring a new county administrator after formally accepting Dennis Aloia's resignation today.
Aloia notified county commissioners by email Monday afternoon that he would accept an offer to become chief operating officer for Benton County, Ore. on March 1. The board accepted Aloia's resignation today at their annual organizational meeting.
Board Chairman Larry Inman and Vice Chairman Larry Fleis will work with staff today on recommendations on finding Aloia's replacement and how the board will cover his position during the transition. Aloia's last day is Feb. 15.
"You are the best county administrator in the United States," Inman told Aloia. "Now it's our job to find the number two county administrator in the country."
The board will discuss the transition and search process in a special meeting Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Governmental Center.
