Milk producers given National Dairy awards

TRAVERSE CITY — Several northern Michigan milk producers were recognized through the National Dairy Quality Award Program.

Duane and Laurie VanPolen, of Marion, received a platinum level award, while Gordon Dick, of McBain, and Randy, Mary, Nick and Nathan Glide, of Lake City, received gold honors. Mark Diemer, of McBain, received a silver award.

The winners were selected from nearly 200 applicants and were evaluated on milk quality, systems for monitoring udder health, herd health and welfare, and related criteria. They are members of the Michigan Milk Producers Association and were nominated by their member representatives.
