MEDC to offer virtual career fairs

TRAVERSE CITY — A pair of virtual career fairs will be offered through the Michigan Economic Development Corp.

The events are set for Wednesday and again Sept. 26, both from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday's fair targets business service occupations including marketing and communications, logistics, accounting and finance, legal services and related areas. The Sept. 26 fair is a general event open to any Michigan industry or economic sector.

The virtual fairs allow participants to connect with recruiters or job candidates, submit resumes for multiple job listings, take part in a networking lounge and view informational videos. More information is available at www.michiganvirtualcareerfair.com.

Top businessmen to discuss investments

TRAVERSE CITY — Three of Michigan's top businessmen will discuss their investments in the state's urban areas at the 2012 West Michigan Policy Forum in Grand Rapids.

The event is Sept. 12 and 13 and speakers will include Dan Gilbert, chairman of Quicken Loans and general partner of Detroit Venture Partners, along with Dick DeVos, CEO of Windquest, and Dan Loepp who's president and CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

The conference will be held at St. Cecilia's Music Center and the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel and includes business and policy experts and electronic voting to develop a state policy agenda.

Veterans business conference set for fall

TRAVERSE CITY — A seventh annual Veterans Business Conference is set for this fall.

The event will be held Sept. 26 from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hagerty Center at 715 E. Front in Traverse City.

It targets veterans who own a business, or want to start or expand one. It will offer information on doing business with various private and public entities, financing, business start-up information and related topics.

Speakers will include Jason Allen of Traverse City, state director of Military and Veteran Affairs, and Gerald Moore who's district director in Detroit for the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Workshops to focus on starting a business

CADILLAC — A pair of workshops on starting a business will be offered through the Northwest Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center.

The workshops will be offered on Thursday and on Aug. 30 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Michigan Works Service in Cadillac located at 401 N. Lake St. Participants will complete an entrepreneurial assessment, learn how to identify business concepts, receive instruction in writing a business plan and other information.
