State tax credit to help Four Winns

CADILLAC -- A state tax credit worth up to $27.1 million will increase boat production at the Four Winns manufacturing plant.

The tax credit, spread over eight years, recently was approved by the Michigan Economic Growth Authority Board. Plans also include relocating production of Glastron boats to the Four Winns facility in Cadillac from Minnesota.

Four Winns and Glastron are owned by an affiliate of Platinum Equity.

Pure Michigan conference slated

TRAVERSE CITY -- The Pure Michigan Governor's Conference on tourism will be held May 6-7 at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island.

The conference is co-sponsored by the Michigan Lodging & Tourism Association, Travel Michigan and Michigan State University.

It will include a session of the Michigan Travel Commission, numerous sessions on topics including culinary tourism, Web site design, green lodging and a 2010 tourism outlook.

There also will be presentations on the 2010 Pure Michigan tourism promotion campaign and from Roger Dow of the U.S. Travel Association.

Application for art fairs being accepted

TRAVERSE CITY -- Applications for three art fairs this summer sponsored by the Downtown Traverse City Association are being accepted.

Arts and crafts vendors can sign up for the Old Town Arts & Crafts Fair on June 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a $60 fee, and for the National Cherry Fesitval Arts & Crafts Fair on July 4 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. for a $150 fee. The Downtown Art Fair is Aug. 21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and includes a $100 fee. All three events are juried shows and applications will be accepted without a late fee by April 9.

Application forms are available at the DTCA Web site at www.downtowntc.com and information is available from the association at 922-2050.

Public hearing on transportation set

TRAVERSE CITY -- Members of the state House Transportation Committee will conduct a public hearing Monday in Traverse City.

The event starts at 1 p.m. at the Hagerty Center at Northwestern Michigan College's Great Lakes Campus. House Committee Chairwoman Rep. Pam Byrnes, D-Chelsea, will attend, along with members Rep. Paul Opsommer, R-Dewitt, and Rep. Wayne Schmidt, R-Traverse City.

Representatives of the state Department of Transportation and Grand Traverse County Road Commission also will attend.

Officials will discuss the local impact of the state's five-year transportation plan.

Program scheduled on wastewater

TRAVERSE CITY -- A free program on developing on-site or clustered wastewater treatment systems will be held March 24, sponsored by the Leelanau County Brownfield Development Authority.

Sessions are set for 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Leelanau County Governmental Center in Suttons Bay Township. Featured speakers are Jim Ridgway of Environmental Consulting & Technology Inc. and David Flowers of Natural Water Solutions LLC. They will discuss ways to develop low-cost, small-scale water and wastewater treatment systems for rural communities and developments.
