Open house at Horticultural Center

The Northwest Michigan Horticultural Research Center will host its annual open house next week.

The event is Thursday at the facility, located at 6686 S. Center Highway in Leelanau County's Bingham Township. Concurrent educational sessions that are free and open to the public start at 3 p.m. Topics will include the latest research in cherry and apple fungicide/bactericide tests from Michigan State University plant pathologist George Sundin. MSU Extension specialists Paolo Sabbatini and Duke Elsner will discuss pruning and training wine grapes, and other subjects will include native plants and orchard pollination.

The open house includes a social hour with local wine tasting starting at 5:15 p.m., followed by a dinner featuring locally produced foods provided by Ethnic Garden Catering. Dinner is $15 and reservations are needed by Wednesday, available by calling (231) 256-9888.
