-- Appliance and electronics retailer ABC Warehouse has hired a new Director of Real Estate, David Gronbach. Gronbach replaces Jim Meinershagen, who retired after a 25-year career with ABC. The company was established in 1963 in Center Line, and currently operates 43 stores throughout Michigan, northern Indiana and Ohio. Details at www.abcwarehouse.com.
-- Joe Daly has been named Wealth Management Advisor at Fifth Third Bank. He previously served as Middle Market Relationship Manager. In his new role, He will be responsible for the Bank's Northern Michigan region, working from the Petoskey office.
-- Daniel Galbraith and Robert Needham have recently joined mBank. Galbraith is the new Branch Manager/Treasury Manager Officer, and Needham joins as Commercial Banking Officer. Both will be located at the Traverse City office.
Presentation
-- Mark Hurley, of Gosling Czubak Engineering Sciences, Inc., made a presentation at the Michigan Food Processors annual meeting in Mount Pleasant recently, titled "In Situ Treatment of Fruit Processing Wastewater — Cherry Growers, Inc. Case Study." The presentation summarized the wastewater treatment pilot study conducted by Gosling Czubak at Cherry Growers, Inc., fruit processing facility in Grawn.
Training
-- Eric Vincke, from Gosling Czubak Engineering Sciences, Inc., recently completed an air emissions modeling course. It provided training on the use of computer models to predict the dispersion of air contaminates including vapors, dust, and particulates. This training will allow him to complete State air quality permit applications that require contaminant dispersion modeling for clients.
New business
-- James Stajos, owner and operator of Black Diamond Fireworks consumer fireworks stores, is opening a new location in the Traverse City area. The store is one of the first in northern Michigan licensed to sell the expanded class of consumer fireworks legalized in Michigan last year under Public Acts 256 and 257 of 2011. The newest Black Diamond store is located at 5872 N. U.S. 31, just south of M-72 in Acme Township. The store will employ nearly 15 full- and part-time employees and be open year-round. In addition to the Traverse City store, Black Diamond operates two stores in the Grand Rapids area and one in Sterling Heights.
Anniversary
-- Bachmann's Store, a Central Lake landmark since 1942, is celebrating its 70th birthday with a party for the community Saturday, June 30, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on State Street, at the "four corners" in Central Lake. Pine Lake Winds, aka the "Geezer Band," is providing a concert of popular music; Bachmann's is providing cupcakes, ice-cream and special recognition to the people who have made this family-owned "five-and-dime" successful over the years.
Recognition
-- Yancy Y. Boivin, of the financial services firm Edward Jones in the Grand Traverse region, recently won the firm's exclusive Spirit of Caring Award designed to recognize those financial advisors who exemplify the values, culture and spirit of giving back. Yancy Boivin was one of only 178 financial advisors out of the firm's more than 12,000 to receive the award.
