'Gateway to M-22' project to launch

ONEKAMA -- Business and community representatives will gather today to launch a "Gateway to M-22" project for Onekama and Arcadia townships in Manistee County.

The kickoff event begins at noon at Feldhak Park in Onekama at M-22 and Eight Mile Road. The project is funded through a $30,000 Rural Business Enterprise grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and will be administered by the Alliance for Economic Success based in Manistee County.

The project's goal is to investigate potential creation of a Downtown Development Authority for Onekama, plus a streetscape plan, business attraction strategy and plan to improve community broadband service. Another phase is to build an economic development strategy along the state road in the two townships.
