Traverse City -- One of northern Michigan's largest home health systems has a new leader.
Shari McLennan recently took over as president and chief executive officer at Munson Home Health. The position was vacated by Janet Wolf, who retired this month after more than 20 years with Munson.
"I just love the area up here," said McLennan, 44, who plans to move into her Traverse City home this weekend. "It's up north, but it has all of the amenities of a big city."
The opportunity to join a larger home health system factored into her decision to apply at Munson, she said.
McLennan joined Munson in July, and job-shadowed Wolf for the past three months. During that time, McLennan met with all the hospital's departments and familiarized herself with the computer system.
She leads a staff of 400 employees who tend to the home health needs of northern Michigan residents across 25 counties.
"We serve over 1,000 patients every day," McLennan said.
As president and chief executive officer of Munson Home Health, McLennan is in charge of Munson Home Health Care, Munson Home Service Private Duty and Munson Hospice and Palliative Care.
She served as chief operating officer at VitalCare in Cheboygan prior to accepting the Munson job. McLennan said most of her duties with Munson are similar to those she handled while at VitalCare.
McLennan has 23 years of experience as a registered nurse in Michigan, including work in acute care, rehabilitation and long-term care.
She continues to serve as president of the Michigan Home Health Association.
McLennan received her bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing from Madonna University, and is slated to receive her master of business administration degree in April from Madonna.
