Co-op marketing meeting Nov. 12

LANSING -- The annual meeting for common stockholders of the Michigan Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Association Inc. will be held Nov. 12 in Lansing.

The meeting begins at 10 a.m. at the Farm Bureau Center, 7373 W. Saginaw Highway in Lansing. The agenda will include annual reports from officers and management, election of a board of directors and consideration of a proposed bylaw change to eliminate patronage dividends and allocations of less than $10 to common stockholders.

Leelanau annual meeting Nov. 17

SUTTONS BAY -- The Leelanau Farmers Markets will conduct its annual meeting and potluck dinner on Nov. 17.

The event will be held at the county Governmental Center along M-204 in Suttons Bay Township. A social hour and dinner will be held from 6 - 7 p.m., followed by the business meeting. The event is open to farmers market vendors, customers and supporters, and participants are asked to bring a dish to pass and their own table service.

Crop insurance deadline Nov. 20

TRAVERSE CITY -- The closing date for area farmers and growers to purchase 2010 crop insurance covering cherries, apples, grapes, blueberries and peaches is Nov. 20.

Signing up for insurance coverage, changing the crop insured or level of protection or changing insurance providers must be completed by the closing date.

Last year in Michigan, the Risk Management Agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture sold more than 1,100 policies extending $89.1 million in coverage for perennial crop producers.
