n Susan Smith, owner of Fish Window Cleaning in Traverse City, was honored as Franchisee of the Year at the company's recent convention in St. Louis, Mo. It's the company's top award among more than 230 locations, and Smith also received the Star Performer Award — Small Market Group, and its Top Sales Award for adding more than 500 new accounts in 2011. Smith also was recognized with a Navigator Award for her work with prospective franchisees.
n Nino E. Green received national recognition for his pro bono legal services to indigent families in northern Michigan from the Legal Services Corporation at the University of Michigan Law School. Green is the board president for Legal Services of Northern Michigan Inc.
n Grand Bay Marine was honored by the Regal Marine Industries of Orlando, Fla., for ranking second in the world in unit sales of Regal Boats for the 2012 model year. It's the third consecutive year Grand Bay Marine ranked in the top five worldwide for Regal Boat sales. The company has locations in Charlevoix and Traverse City and is owned by Liz Carney.
n Allstate Insurance Co. honored John Weber, owner of an Allstate agency in Traverse City, with its Honor Ring award based on customer satisfaction, retention and profitability ranking it among the company's top agencies in the nation. The office is located at 2301 Garfield Road North.
n McCardel Culligan based in Traverse City acquired Culligan of Petoskey as of Aug. 1. The company also has offices in Big Rapids and Alpena and now has 40 employees covering 20 northern Michigan counties. Bryan Send will oversee the Petoskey operation, and the company president is Keith McCardel.
n Horse Shows by the Bay Inc. raised more than $15,000 for various local and national charities during its recent six-week event at Flintfields Horse Park in Williamsburg. Recipients included the Michigan Horse Welfare Coalition, Leelanau and Grand Traverse County's 4-H programs, the Traverse Bay Children's Advocacy Center and the United States Equestrian Team Foundation. Leftover grain, hay and bedding were donated to Peach Ranch, an equine assisted therapy center in Traverse City. Alexandra Rheinheimer is the show's owner and manager.
n Local CenturyLink Inc. employees and customers donated 4,475 pounds of food to the Father Fred Foundation food bank in Traverse City during the company's Feed the Children Backpack Buddies Food Drive which took place in late June. More than 106,000 pounds were raised nationally, and CenturyLink's Clarke M. Williams Foundation contributed $1 million toward the effort.
