Farming, gardening lectures to begin

ELK RAPIDS — A monthly lecture series on farming and gardening topics will begin next week at Cherryland Middle School in Elk Rapids.

The Ready, Set, Grow! lecture series begins Tuesday and kicks off with "Biodynamic Farming" featuring Angela Macke, of Light of Day Organics farm. It continues Feb. 16 with "Garden Designs for Home, School and Community Gardens" featuring Sarah Thayer.

On March 13, Phyllis Wells of the Wells Family Farm will discuss "Seed Starting," and the April 12 program is "Mushrooms in Your Garden" with local mushroom expert Yvonne Stephens. The series concludes on May 24 with "Looking Beyond the Landscape," featuring Matthew Bertrand, of the Grand Traverse Conservation District.

All of the programs are from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the school's multipurpose room. More information is available from Sarah Pierson at 264-8991.
